West Bengal Medical Council President And Senior Members Resign: PBT Demands Prosecution Of The Devious Medical Leaders

Ever since its inception in Kolkata more than ten years ago, PBT has been raging battles against corruption inside the medical councils across India.  Nowhere PBT’s battle against medical corruption is more prominent than the long-drawn fight against the corrupt medical leaders in the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC).  After the Trinomul-Congress coalition recently routed the more than three decades long CPM-led ruling in West Bengal, PBT launched into a renewed attack and demanded to the Mamta Banerjee-led government to dismantle the WBMC and investigate the dubious members.  It was learned today that under the relentless attacks by the PBT, four top WBMC members including its president Dr. Ashok Chowdhury and Vice-president Dr. Subir Dutta have submitted their resignation from the state medical council. While we are very pleased with our long-lasting effort to remove the WBMC president who has occupied the post for the past more than 15 years, PBT has submitted a memorandum today with the chief minister (who is also the health minister) Mamta Banerjee urging her not to allow these devious WBMC leaders to flee from justice by opting to resign from the post.  PBT has also sought for an immediate investigation and exemplary punishment for the retird WBMC leaders who have deliberately shielded their errant medical colleagues without caring for the lives of the innocent patients for the past many years (see PBT’s letter to CM below)
