MCI Election Rigged by Dr. Ketan Desai and His Cronies: SC Issues Notice In PBT’s Historic PIL Seeking CBI Investigation and Dissolution of MCI

In a major development against corruption in Medical Council of India (MCI), Supreme Court division bench of Chief Justice Mr. H.K. Dattu and Mr. A.K. Sikri has issued notice against Ministry of Health, MCI and Dr. Ketan Desai today in response to our PIL (W.P. Civil No. 890/2014; PBT vs. Union of India & Ors.).  This historic PIL was filed by PBT against rigging in the last MCI election (held in December 2013) under the influence of disgraced ex-MCI president, Dr. Ketan Desai.  The rigged MCI election has put all Ketan Desai cronies at the top positions in MCI including present MCI president (Dr. Jayshreeben Mehta), vice-president (Dr. C.V. Bhirdanraman) and Ethics Committee members Dr. Ajay Kumar and Dr. Ved Prakash Mishra etc.

This PIL has sought:

1)       CBI investigation of the rigged MCI election and prosecution of all MCI members who were involved with this rigged MCI election.

2)      The present MCI governing body including its president/vice-president that came to power through the rigged election be dissolved immediately.

3)      Amendment in Section 3 of Indian Medical Council Act that has allowed large number corrupt doctors be “nominated” through sinister political connection to become MCI members.

This is a very good development. I hope Supreme court would dissolve the MCI soon and send Ketan Desai to jail. As Medical Council Of India (MCI) and State Medical Councils are incapable of giving justice to anyone. They cannot do any good for society and country.
Thank you Dr. Kunal Saha for your continued efforts.

    Regards

    https://www.change.org/p/2009230?just_created=true
We on behalf of PBMCI hearty congratulate health minister for innovative proposal of uniform exit exam for medical graduates to maintain uniformity in medical education. We also congratulate you for making it mandatory for permanent registration thereby overturning the malafide intention of MCI to avoid scrutiny of doctors produced under its own corrupt system. We also condemn the MCI for having proposed exit exam to be optional there by attempting to shield competency of doctors produced by medical mafia controlled private colleges. Scores of dubious private medical college openly auction their seats in crores & pass them from their own private universities by taking crores again. People of India have every right to know if these graduates possess basic medical skills before allowing them to play with their life.

Dr. Ketan Desai is a member in so many famous medical institutes including MCI, DCI, IMA, WMA etc. All his membership to be terminated. This also would send a signal to other erring persons, the consequence of the such behavior. This will definitely help in improvement in health care system in India. PBT should fight for the removal from of Dr. Ketan Desai. Also request to PBT to present in the above case to honorable supreme court to give instructions to State and Central Government, not to recommend tainted people like Dr. Ketan Desai for membership. It is shame on India, that we do not have any able medical person from Gujarat to recommend by state government for Gujarat Medical Council.
