Trinamool-Congress Wins Botched WB Medical Council Election: PBT to Move Court Against Voting Fraud

Amid wide-spread allegations of voter intimidation and voting fraud, all seven doctors belonging to Trinamool-Congress (TMC) party seemingly won the historic West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) Election, 2013 (under the “teachers” category).  The vote counting for other seven seats (under “general” category) is scheduled to be held on July 2, 2013.  Although PBT did not support any of the candidates running in this election under “teachers” category, we strongly denounced attempts of voting fraud and manipulation of ballots.  In fact, PBT filed a PIL before Calcutta High Court alleging serious voting fraud and ballot snatching by doctors belonging to TMC, High Court passed an Order on June 6, 2013 giving liberty to PBT to bring up the same disputes after the election.  PBT has also moved the Supreme Court last week to bring notice to the atrocious irregularities with the council election by the candidates belonging to the ruling party.  The WBMC Election 2013 is “historic” because for the first time the medical council election is being held only after PBT moved the court against the undemocratic “Adhoc Committee” which was formed with handful loyal supporters of TMC after the party led by Mamata Banerjee swept to power in West Bengal in 2011.
